Local musician JB Mayes, of JB & Jason fame, is shaving his head in conjunction with the St. Baldrick's Foundation to support childhood cancer research.  He's asking for your help in supporting the cause.

St. Baldrick's is the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. At St. Baldrick's events across the country, thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family. Donations go to children's cancer research.  For more information on the St. Baldrick's Foundation, please visit their website at www.stbaldricks.org.

Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. While advances have saved many children, childhood cancer still claims the lives of more children in the US than any other disease - more than diabetes, asthma, congenital anomalies, cystic fibrosis and AIDS - combined!

How did Mr. Mayes get involved?  The son of one of his best friends, young Bo Baker, was diagnosed with cancer in February of this year. His father Rob introduced J.B. to St. Baldricks. "I am shaving in honor of Bo." wrote Mayes.

Mayes will be going under the scissors on Saturday, October 24th at Clayton, NC's "The Flipside" bar and restaurant located at 105 South Lombard Street at 3:00 PM.

You can read more about Bo here: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/bobaker. You can donate to the cause online at: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/shavee_info.php?ParticipantKey=2009-359585, or you can contact J.B. directly via email: mayesjb@suddenlink.net, or call him at 252-341-2262.
