Atmosphere
Rating: Above Most

Wasabi 88, located in an establishment that was formerly a pizza place, now has the kind of rich look and warm appeal that makes you like the place the second you walk in the door. It is both elegant and comfortable with just enough lighting that the atomosphere is sultry, but you can still see well enough to read the menu.

The Food
Rating
: Above Most

Wasabi 88 had a very expansive menu, of which our table ordered the Wasabi 88 sushi roll as an appetizer. The Wasabi 88 sushi roll was by far the table's favorite item (not including the one non-sushi eater).  The Wasabi 88 was a shrimp roll wrapped in thin strips of medium rare steak, a combination of which I had never seen. It was a great mix of surf and turf on a sushi roll.  Next I ordered the sea bass as an entree, along with the seafood egg drop soup as a side item. The sea bass was both tasty and moist, a combination sometimes hard to accomplish with certain types of fish. The seafood egg drop soup had huge portions of jumbo shrimp and crab meat but fell just a tad short on taste with the broth being much blander than customary egg drop soup. Overall, the meal was quite tasty, and I needed a doggie bag when I was done.

The Price
Rating
: Good

While it's not as affordable as some of the other Asian establishments in town, its certainly not out of the price range of those who frequently dine on entrees between $12 and $30. You'll find that it's atmosphere and care of the wait staff and management are worth the few extra dollars.

The Service
Rating
: Good

During our stay our server was accommodating to all of our requests and gave us ample time to make our decisions while keeping an eye on us to gauge when we were ready to make our next selections.  After the meal began, our server was a little slow to return at times, most likely due to the hectec pace of the dinner hour.  Upon being serverd one of our entrees came between 5 and 10 minutes after everyone else's did, which made dining a little awkward for those who already had their food, but wasn't enough to ruin the experience.  The manager did stop by to check on us several times. During his stops, he made a point to actually have a conversation with us. This is refreshing as most of the establishments that have managers check on tables simply ask "is everything okay here", wait for a nod from anyone at the table, and then move on to the next group of guests.  As if they are working from a timed check list and not actually engaging you to ensure that you are enjoying your experience. Wasabi 88's management does it the right way.

Great food - a little expensive.

In response to "eataroll"'s post - you might want to show a little respect for "those "freakin collage" kids. Perhaps if you had attended a higher learning institution, you would not use the word "freakin" in a public forum, and perhaps even have learned how to spell the word c-o-l-l-E-g-e. Just remember, the college, along with our wonderful healthcare facilities, play a huge role in allowing these "mid-priced" resturants to stay in town. Thank you everyone for your other posts.

Food is 4 star Service is 3.5 star (wait staff doesn't check today for re-fills). This is a no brainer for getting extra tip. Price is 3 star (a little pricey but just enough to keep you there and not those freakin collage kids. Over all, I recommend it. If you have a choke phobia, order water on the side.
